A concept for a “Room-Scale” Shooter at at time where seated was the norm.

V.R.C.S. (Virtual Reality Cover Shooter) was a cover shooter code base for Unity3D, designed for the Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 with Razer Hydra controllers. It was planned to be sold in Unitys Asset Store, but due to the production stop of the Razer Hydra and the lack of an available successor, those plans were cancelled.

When I got access to the HTC Vive Pre, the first room-scale capable headset, I considered to port the code base. But then other developers started similiar projects and games and I had already moved on to other projects, so it never went further than an internal prototype.

Being an arcade games fan, i decided to port the concept of classic light gun arcade games to virtual reality. But rather than developing a complete game, the idea was release a code base, that others can use to create such games. The code base provided the developer with everything he would need to develop a simple cover shooter. He can add levels, weapons and enemies without writing a single line of code.

Amongst other things, the code base includes, the following things:

  • 1 Handed Weapon System (Pistols)
  • 2 Handed Weapon System (Rifles)
  • Teleport System with teleport areas
  • Extendable Enemy Ai with spawn points and wave system
